Branch of Microbiology at Faculty of Medicine has held symposium about health and environmental aspects of Bird flu/Avian influenza.

It has been attended by University president Prof.Dr.Ali Mahmood Al Shammari , the vice-chancellor for scientific affairs Prof.Dr.Safa AlObaidi  and a number of teaching staff.

Assist. lecturer Ahmed Mohammed and assist. lecturer Taqreed Fadhil have shed the light upon issues related to the topic; its definition , types and the importance of differentiating between the Pandemic and seasonal influenza, the popular epidemics in Iraq and world at the recent period.

The recommendations of the symposium state the importance of making a comprehensive survey of the current influenza type, as well as ;working on the production of seasonal vaccines to reduce the spread of the disease.
